Everything you need to know about custom cork coasters

Custom cork coasters are natural cork discs and squares decorated with your artwork — laser-engraved for a burned-in, tactile finish or printed for full-color designs. Cork earns its place on the bar top: it absorbs condensation instead of pooling it, grips the table so glasses don’t slide, and won’t scratch wood finishes. It’s also a renewable material harvested from cork oak bark without felling the tree, which makes it an easy sustainability story for brands that care about that message.

Because coasters are produced to order, the right spec depends on how they’ll be used — a wedding favor, a taproom staple, or a boxed corporate gift each calls for a different size, thickness, and decoration. This guide walks through sizes and shapes, cork thickness and construction, the difference between engraving and printing, how ordering runs from artwork to delivery, and how bulk pricing scales from favor quantities to hospitality volume. Why go custom

A small canvas that sits exactly where eyes land

A custom cork coaster spends its life six inches from every drink your customer, guest, or client picks up — that’s hundreds of close-range brand impressions per coaster. Cheap pulpboard coasters get soggy and tossed; engraved cork gets kept, stacked on side tables, and asked about.

Keepsake quality

Laser engraving burns your design into the cork itself — no ink to fade or peel — for a warm, crafted look people hold onto.

Works as hard as it looks

Cork absorbs condensation, grips the table, protects finishes, and springs back — a coaster that performs in daily bar service.

Priced for any quantity

From a 50-piece wedding run to hospitality orders in the thousands, per-coaster pricing scales steeply with volume.

How it works

From your artwork to the tabletop in four steps

1

Send your design

Share your logo, monogram, or wedding details, plus the size, shape, and quantity you have in mind.

2

We design & proof

We prep your art for engraving or print — line weights, contrast, layout — and send a digital proof on the exact coaster shape.

3

You approve

Confirm the proof, dates and spelling included. Nothing hits the laser or press until you sign off.

4

We produce & ship

Coasters are engraved or printed, inspected, and packed flat — shipped nationwide in time for your event or opening.

Sizes & shapes

Cork coaster sizes: which shape and diameter fits?

The classic is a 4" round — big enough for pint glasses and mugs, familiar on any bar. Squares read a little more modern, 3.5" suits cocktail service and favor budgets, and die-cut shapes (states, bottles, your logo outline) turn the coaster itself into the design. Here’s how orders break down.

Order share by coaster shape & size

Share of custom cork coaster orders by shape. The 4" round leads because it fits every glass; die-cut shapes carry a tooling charge, so they skew to larger runs.

Per-coaster price vs. quantity

Relative per-unit cost for an engraved 4" round, indexed to a 50-piece order. Setup amortizes quickly — favor runs cost more per piece than taproom volume.

Why cork beats pulpboard, stone, and silicone on the table

Our coasters are cut from agglomerated natural cork — granulated cork oak bark pressed with a food-safe binder into dense, uniform sheets. That density matters: fine-grain cork engraves with crisp detail and doesn’t crumble at the edges the way cheap, loose-grain stock does. Standard thickness is 1/4" (about 6 mm), which feels substantial in hand and won’t warp; 1/8" (3 mm) is a lighter, budget-friendly option for favors and mailers.

Cork is naturally water-resistant and springs back from compression, so glasses don’t leave permanent rings in the coaster and the coaster doesn’t leave marks on the table. It’s also one of the easiest sustainability stories in promo: cork oak bark regrows after harvest, and our offcuts are recycled back into new sheet. Wipe clean with a damp cloth — no coatings required, though a sealed finish is available for print work.

  • Fine-grain agglomerated cork — dense, uniform, crisp engraving
  • 1/4" standard thickness — substantial, warp-resistant; 1/8" value option
  • Naturally absorbent — condensation soaks in, not onto the table
  • Non-slip & furniture-safe — grips without scratching finishes
  • Renewable & recyclable — bark-harvested, tree left standing
  • Food-safe binder — wipe-clean, no odor transfer to drinks

Six ways to make cork carry your design

Laser engraving

Your design burned into the cork surface — permanent, tactile, and the signature look for logos, monograms, and wedding dates.

Full-color UV printing

CMYK artwork printed directly on the cork face for illustrations, labels, and multi-color brand designs.

1–2 color screen print

Bold spot-color logos at the best per-piece price on high-volume hospitality runs.

Shapes & die-cutting

Rounds, squares, hexagons — or a fully custom outline cut to your logo, state, or bottle silhouette.

Edge & back finishing

Clean square or chamfered edges, and optional back engraving for a URL, date, or table number.

Packaging & sets

Bulk-packed for service, or sets of 4–6 in kraft boxes, belly bands, or organza bags for gifting and retail.

Finish guide

Cork finishes and print treatments, matched to the job

Natural cork is the canvas, but the treatment sets the tone — a burned engraving reads rustic-premium, a white underbase print reads bold and modern. The most-requested directions:

Natural corkThe classic warm, light-grain look
Engraved burnDeep brown laser mark, tactile finish
Dark-stained corkEspresso tone for upscale bars
Black printHigh-contrast single-color logos
White underbaseMakes full-color art pop on cork
Spot brand color1–2 color screen print, PMS-matched
Full-color CMYKIllustrations, labels & photo art
Sealed finishOptional topcoat for printed designs

Engraving depends on contrast, not color — fine line art and serif monograms engrave beautifully. Printed spot colors are matched to your Pantone references.

Bulk pricing

How custom cork coaster pricing works

Coasters are priced per unit, and the per-coaster price drops steeply as quantity climbs. Your quote depends on four things: size and thickness, decoration method (engraving vs. print), shape (die-cut shapes add one-time tooling), and total quantity. A single design across the whole run keeps setup costs lowest.

FAQ

Custom cork coaster questions, answered

What’s the minimum order for custom cork coasters?
Custom runs start at 50 coasters — sized for wedding favors and small events. Per-coaster pricing improves sharply at 250, 1,000, and 5,000 pieces, so taproom and hospitality orders cost far less per unit.
Should I choose laser engraving or printing?
Engraving burns the design into the cork — permanent, tactile, and ideal for logos, line art, monograms, and dates. Printing adds color: screen print for 1–2 bold spot colors, UV print for full-color artwork. If your design depends on color, print; if it depends on craft feel, engrave.
What sizes and shapes are available?
Stock shapes are 3.5" and 4" rounds, 3.5" and 4" squares, and hexagons, in 1/8" or 1/4" thickness. Custom die-cut shapes — logo outlines, states, bottles — are available with a one-time tooling charge.
How thick should a cork coaster be?
1/4" (about 6 mm) is our standard — substantial in hand, warp-resistant, and the right depth for crisp engraving. 1/8" (3 mm) is a budget-friendly option for favors, mailers, and packaging inserts.
Do cork coasters actually absorb condensation?
Yes — that’s cork’s advantage. Its cellular structure soaks up glass sweat instead of pooling it, then dries out between uses. It also grips the table and won’t scratch wood, marble, or lacquered finishes.
Are cork coasters a sustainable choice?
Cork is harvested from the bark of cork oak trees, which regrows — no tree is cut down. Our coasters use granulated cork with a food-safe binder, and production offcuts are recycled into new sheet, making cork one of the most defensible eco stories in promotional products.
Can you print my wedding date and names?
Absolutely — names, date, monogram, and a motif engraved on every coaster is our most popular favor design. Send your invitation suite or fonts and we’ll match the style in your proof, packaged in organza bags or belly bands if you like.
Can you match our exact brand colors?
Printed designs are matched to your Pantone (PMS) references; full-color UV printing can include a white underbase so colors stay true on the tan cork. Engraving produces a natural brown burn tone that varies slightly piece to piece — part of the charm.
How durable is the engraving or print in bar service?
Engraving is permanent — it’s a burn, not a coating, so it can’t peel or wash off. Printed designs are cured for scuff resistance, and a sealed topcoat is available for high-traffic hospitality use. Wipe clean with a damp cloth; don’t submerge or machine-wash.
Can we split an order across multiple designs?
Yes — hospitality clients often run 3–4 designs (one per beer, one per venue) across an order. Engraved design swaps are inexpensive; printed design swaps add a setup per design. Your combined quantity still earns the volume rate.
What artwork works best?
Vector art (AI, EPS, PDF, SVG) is ideal for both methods. For engraving, high-contrast line art reproduces best — very fine halftones and photos suit UV print instead. Send what you have; we’ll flag anything that needs cleanup before proofing.
Do you offer gift boxing or retail packaging?
Yes — sets of 4 or 6 in kraft gift boxes, printed belly bands, organza bags, or barcoded retail packaging. Packaging is quoted alongside the coasters so orders arrive gift- or shelf-ready.
How fast can you produce and ship?
Turnaround depends on quantity, decoration method, and packaging. After proof approval most orders move to the laser or press promptly — share your wedding, opening, or event date in your quote request and we’ll confirm a schedule against it.
How do I get a quote?
Use the custom quote form with your size, shape, quantity, and artwork, or call (929) 605-4397. You’ll get pricing and a production timeline back quickly.
